Admin, once again you've done a great job bringing us the latest developments and photos to boot. Our appreciation goes out to you. Now, I'm sure most of us have checked out the section on the 'new' Leoforo stadium. What I would like to know is this. Will any work be required on the surrounding streets/structures, because as we all know previous editions of the 'plans' have to some extent or another required or at least proposed major work around the stadium. What if any work is to be done if this design finally goes ahead?

The "good" thing about the latest plans is that limited interventions in the surrounding area are required (compared to previous proposals). Essentially, these regard the eastern part of the site, behind today's gates 6 and 7. The plans call for the closure of a side street (Kyriakou), which IMO is no big deal.
The most important thing is that part of the parking lot, which lies across this street, is essential for the plan to go ahead. It belongs to a gas station, which in turn belongs to the Greek church! I have read here-and-there that the church seem willing to "sell" this piece of land to PAO, provided of course that a "fair price" is paid.

A sports newspaper mentioned that this issue with the parking lot is well under way and should not encounter any major problems. But my opinion is that this could evolve into a serious obstacle, since my understanding is that the Greek church does not want to "sell" this landpiece regardless of the compensation, due to its willingness to build the new Cathedral in the very same spot where the Apostolos Nikolaidis Stadium now exists. I think that PAO officials (and the affiliated press) may be underestimating the severity of this issue.
