Guys, for more on the Rendi Stadium plans, have a look at its page that was previously on the site: www.stadia.gr/rendi.htmlPrometheus, you're wrong! There was more to it. It all started 5 years ago, when Olympiakos wanted to upgrade Karaiskaki. Their plans for the stadium: 45,000 seats, lowering of the pitch, two giant arcs supporting two roofs over the longer stands etc. You can read all about it in the "News" section. When they got no positive response, they decided to opt for Rendi, then again Karaiskaki (the plan with the two towers), again Rendi (the plans in the page I gave you) and now (finally ) it's Karaiskaki again!!! Are you dizzy? I know I am You know guys...all this debating would be spared if Olympiakos or ATHOC would show the plans to the public. Otherwise I can't wait to see what the new stadium looks like. Until then all we can do is wait.

I'm dizzy. Any idea of when we can expect an official statement? I would assume someone would make a statement after they begin construction, or right before they start, but that's my estimation.

I know you guys are talking about this in the Greek Speaking section, but since my writing isn't great in Greek I prefer English. But I digress, I just found out from the Athens News Agency (ANA) that the the demolition to Karaiskaki still has not begun. The agency says that the contract that Olympiakos has to sign has been signed yet by the Amature club and even after that it must be ratified by the Auditing Council and face possible legal challenges by outside parties. The site has more news available, I just wanted to keep you guys posted on the project. Here's the link to the site if you want to read more. ANA updates the site every Fridays and it also has good information about other projects that are particular to the 2004 games. Enjoy! www.ana.gr/towards2004/towards.htm

Deal finalises contract for rebuilding Karaiskaki, the soccer venueA long-awaited deal to rebuild the coastal Karaiskaki stadium in time for the Athens 2004 Olympics was finally signed by the government and officials from the Olympiakos Piraeus amateur club early this week, following a year of back-and-forth negotiations, delays and even Parliament approval. Karaiskaki, named after a Greek independence hero, fell into complete disrepair over the past few years, with its most lucrative tenant, the popular Olympiakos pro football team, opting for other, more modern venues – including the OAKA stadium prior to its closing for renovation in light of the 2004 Athens Games. The venue passed from the Hellenic Olympic Committee (EOE) to the state-run General Sports Secretariat before being given over to the amateur Olympiakos club as part of a 49-year-old concession. Olympiakos has promised to demolish and rebuild the venue based on FIFA and IOC specifications with its own resources, as the new stadium is slated to host the 2004 soccer finals. In comments on Monday during a signing ceremony, Culture Minister Evangelos Venizelos – whose ministry oversees much of the 2004 preparations on the government’s side – referred to a “crystal clear contract” that will both benefit the coming Olympic Games as well as the historic Piraeus club, owned by one of the wealthiest men in the country, IT and telecommunications magnate Socrates Kokkalis. The first date for beginning demolition was given as Feb. 15 before an April 7 date was later given. However, the last week of April or first week of May now seems to be the target for commencing what by all accounts will be “break-neck” construction to rebuild the stadium in the coastal Athens district of Faliro. www.ana.gr/towards2004/towards.htm

Guys, just to update you on Karaiskaki... I know most of you here are Greeks of the Diaspora. I assume you can understand Greek, so check out this page, if you haven't already all these days: www.stadia.gr/newgrounds-gr.html. Although I am very busy right now, I try to update it every time there are news concerning Karaiskaki (also has info on PAO and AEK new grounds). In the last weeks, this has meant an update every couple of days. Even if you don't understand Greek, have a look at this page: www.stadia.gr/karaiskakinew-gr.html. It has all the plans for the new stadium that have been released by the club up until now. The pictures speak for themselves . There are rumours that Olympiakos will present the 3-d model of the new ground right after the end of the football season (May or early June).

Well people, it appears Karaiskaki is now part of history. However, as we all remember what was, we now look forward to what will be, and that makes me very happy. ;D Olympiakos will get the home they deserve.

'Who lives - who dies in 50 years' (agglisti...) In 2054, they may not play football in stadia any more... They may play it in Virtual Reality... And the hackers will be the football hooligans of the future... Who knows till then... Don't forget, that 50 years ago,in 1954, none of the present stadia was in the present condition... More or less, they were fields with maybe one small stand (with the exception of Lewforos and Kallimarmaro...) The 2 above are eternal stadia...and have also something else in common... They have to do with Panathinaikos/Panathinaikon I'm sure that in 50 years time, the only stadia that will remain the same will be again Kallimarmaro (for historical reasons) and Lewforos (for Bardinogianneian reasons...) If we are alive in 2054 (impossible with the life we do), we'll talk about it again in the virtual-hologram forum of www.stadia.gr ;D

She looks d**n good! ;D
Lead from top to bottom I say. Let the AEK's, OLY's, PAO's (I hope) etc get their new and/or upgraded stadium's, and the results will filter through to the bottom teams.

A quick question.... Is Karaiskaki going to have a capacity of 33,500 or 35,000? On this site it says 33,500, but on others I have read 35,000. Does anybody know exactly? Thanks!

Capacity is going to be between 33,000 and 33,500, depending on the type of seats they choose to install. The number 35,000 is wrong.
